Northern Trust Open

We would like to take this opportunity to officially launch a new new weekly feature to our blog post; Ace of Clubs Fantasy Golf Picks.

In this weekly feature we will list our top (8) expert picks and (2) dark horse picks for the current week's PGA Tour event.

We invite you all to join us in participating in the 2015 Fantasy Golf League hosted by at Yahoo Fantasy Sports.

The 2014 Northern Trust Open Champion is coming off of a T-2 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and looks to be in good form to defend his 2014 title. Currently ranked #3 in the World Golf Rankings and the FedEx Cup Standings, Watson is a solid pick this week at Riviera Country Club.

When making fantasy golf selections you must always take into account those players that are "hot" at the moment. And at the moment, no one is playing as consistently as J.B. Holmes. You may remember that he almost won the Farmers Insurance Open two weeks ago, but then chose to lay up on the final hole. Holmes still managed a T-2 at the event, but then last week he posted another quiet T-10 at the AT&T Pro-Am. Finishing with a final round 65 on Sunday. Additionally, J.B. has also posted a couple top 10 finishes at Rivera within the past few years.

At the beginning the year no one really knew what to expect from Dustin Johnson. All things considered, Johnson had a very tumultuous 2014 that included his drug test failures and the recent birth of his first child. It seemed like Johnson was a bit rusty in his first start, missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. But last week Johnson's game showed signs of life when he finished T-4 at the AT&T Pro-Am. Johnson also finished runner up at the Northern Trust Open last year, and has some additional top 5 finishes in this event in the past.

Spieth is never a risky pick having already racked up two Top 10 finishes in his first three events of 2015. The #9 ranked golfer in the world does not have a long track record at Riviera, but he is never a player that you want to count out. Not to mention that he blew the field away at the HERO World Challenge back in December.

In this new "wrap around" season format, Sneaker has been playing some really solid golf. Brandt has already posted four T-10 finishes and a win last last week at Pebble Beach. With his play the last few months, he is staring to look like the Sneaker from 2012 when he won the coveted Fed-Ex Cup.

It is no surprise to pick Jimmy Walker to win this week. The current Fed-Ex Cup points leader has been on fire this year. Walker also posted back to back T-4 finishes at the Northern Trust Open in 2011 and 2012.

Although Schwartzel is currently sitting comfortably in 19th position on the Race to Dubai, he is making his season debut on the PGA Tour this week at Riviera. It comes as no surprise to me that Schwartzel is choosing to make his PGA Tour debut this week. Ever since he added this event to his schedule back in 2013, he has posted a T-3 and 5th place finish respectively.

Keegan is one of the most solid players on the PGA Tour today. Although he has not cashed in on any opportunities to win this year, he also hasn't missed any cut either. Couple that fact with his solid track record at Riveira and I think you may see his name up near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday afternoon.

This UCLA alum has posted a pair of top 25s in the last three Northern Trust Opens. Chappell is coming off a T-18 at Pebble Beach where he ranked fourth in scrambling.

Already a winner this year at the Humana Challenge, Haas is also the 2012 Northern Trust Open Champion and is coming off a T-19 last week at the AT&T Pro Am.
